Bumper feels rough and yet smooth

Hi Guys

Had me Disco for a month now and with the recent spell of nice weather i though get out me trusty AutoGlym and do her proud. She came up a treat except i noticed the bumbers all around seem to be like half rough and the other half smooth. Has anyone else had this problem and what causes it. I am thinking of getting them seen to and perhaps sprayed or something at a decent body shop to get them looking the same.

Any comment and thoughts would be appreciated !

Cor blimey it must be a good un if that's all that needs doin to it. Most people aren't too bothered about cosmetics.

My 2001 TD5 looking pretty shabby on the plastic wheel arch surrounds but havent got round to doing anything about it yet. Looks almost like whoever had it before me contacted a polishing buff on it all round the edges and removed the top coating layer. Was considering giving it a spray as quote for replacements was 190 squids and havent seen any on flea bay for ages.

Well she is a 2002 and yeah that's the same problem i have. Can someone clarify please that they ain't supposed to be like that. That half nearest the actual body of the car is rough and the outer part is smooth. Feels like is been sanded down so to speak.

What sort of spray could you use...

Was thinking on a fine sandpaper to get it a bit smoother then something like Plastikote spray paint as I have used it before and got reasonable results but not on external plastic. Worth a try when weather improves.

Mine are the same on a 52 plate, rough near bodywork and smooth elsewhere. There are lots of things you can put on them to make them look shiny all over. I use a silicone based bumper dressing ( not a spray on one, thick gloopy stuff) which makes them look better, even just wiping a greasy or oily rag over them improves the appearance. There are also special plastic coating paints available which i have used on other cars with success, might be worth a try.

peanut butter

ok guys nice sunny day today so i got some real fine sandpaper and very gently rubbed the bumbers and got them all smooth again. The question i want advice on now please is what is the best way now to get the looking like new again. Would you recomend to re-spray them or treat them with a product etc..

sounds like they have been smart-repaired.

Basically the bumper has been filled and sanded down, then to restore the finish a textured paint is spayed on, looks great from a distance but the texture is never the same as the original moulding and will feel rough to the touch. back to black type products never go on properly either.

Its nothing to worry about, probably just a scuff that has been put right

I now own a 2001 TD5 and can confirm that my wheel arches are the same as if some one has sandpapered the bit nearest the body, i thought that it was just mine, not got round to doing anything about it just yet
