Bump Stops and MOT

1990 Defender 110 200 TDI

Rear bump stops and brackets rusted away. Do I need them for MOT or not? I have heard of they aren't there it doesn't matter, so thinking of just cleaning them away.
On same theme does anyone know where I can get some brackets, or an alternative way of fixing if not??

I use to make them out of a bit of angle iron and weld them on. One at either side and a stainless steel M6 bolt.

Thanks, made some brackets now out of 40mm X 4 mm angle and then 4mm plate inbetween. When welded on will outlast everything else I think!
As you are a tester am I likely to get a problem with a slightly rusty bottom door pillar (from inside cab)?

Mmmm ... my 1993 Defender has its MOT tomorrow ... not looking forward to it, even though I have used every spare penny on the motor! Everything's crossed.
