Hello iv been to a pay and play day today in the disco. Whilst there I herd a knocking so on investigation I found the Nearside rear shock had broken at the bottom where the stud came out of the shocker. I took the shocker off and carried on with just a few minute more driving nothing extreme and then the other shock broke the same.

My question is, is there anything likely to be causing this fault or is it just poorly made shocks? (they are nearly new terrafirmer +2" shocks witch I know have a questionable reputation).

I also understand that the second shock breaking is more than likely my fault for carrying on but didn't wanna go home that early.lol
Any help much appreciated.
Thanks

If they are new it could be that they have been done up too tight and squashed the bushes taking away their movement. With no shock the axle has no travel limiter so be carefull.

Here are some pics of the shock it's just tore the stud out of the base of the shock.
The disco is lifted 2" on springs and shocks.
I can accept that he second shock breaking was more than likely completely my fault.

The point about he bushes being to tight might be a fair point I did do them pretty tight.

did you cut the cups off your shock mounts on the axle before you fitted the shocks?

If not then thats probably the issue.

No I didn't, I must admit I did thing they were strange and that the bushes were a bit too snug. Ill make sure I do next time as the shocks have only been on about 3 months so its not like they have had a long time of abuse.

Whatever and however it happened, call or mail Terrafirma and pose a question. Nice and polite whilst still being 'concerned' that they've broke so soon .. you never know what might happen .. ;)

id put a couple o quid on that being your problem, youve snapped it under stress.

If youve tightened them down quite tight as well then when you take it off road and the axle does its downward arc it will obviously not have any/much movement. Lesson learned hey. :)

Thanks for the replies I might contact terrafirma for what it's worth, u never know.
Yeah it is a lesson learnt ill cut those cups off and fit the next ones a little looser.

Also if you fitted the cups the wrong way i.e if the bottom cup is U it should be the other way around and the cups on the top should be. Then this would also cause enough stress to break the pins off also. cups should dome away from the bush and not cup the bush.
