Broken down defender :-(

I was driving home tonight from B and Q when suddenly I lost drive to my defender 90 fitted with a 200 TDI engine. I pulled over and neither the high ratio or the low ratio box would work, I mean any gear in any ratio box and once the clutch is released there is just a wining noise and no movement. Anybody any idea what might be wrong? Gear box gone? differential gone? or drive shaft coming out of the gear box sheared? I would be obliged for any views please.....

have you tried in diff lock ,if it does probably cv, half shaft etc if not clutch plate centre ,input gear /mainshaft splines

yep tried diff lock too, no use just a wurring sound when the gear (any gear including reverse) is engaged..

Without being there it is hard to get a good diagnosis, lay shaft snapped maybe?

input gear on transfer box/gearbox mian shaft output splines can be checked by removing 6x bolt holding pto cover on rear of t/box ,has it been clunky setting off changing gear etc
