I have a 2012 SDVD 3.0,
I was driving on the motorway, suddenly car died, no warnings clunks or smoke.

Battery icon showed on dash, i plugged it in battery read 11.4v (low) i cleared faults and tried to restart, just got a click.

Codes:
1# GEN A
2# Lin Bus

When i add jump leads to the battery and the bracket on top engine i get the same click.

I found that the 400a fuse was blown, replaced but still get the click when trying to start, before my journey i topped up the coolent, i think maybe i slightly overfilled it.

I wonder if anyone can help?

Could you find out when the last service was, also last time the battery was replaced. Most batteries drain and have a limit to start hence clicking ignition. Not sure whether you have a start stop model not being a discovery player here. But some have two batteries.

Last service was done by myself about 3k ago, battery was new December 2021, this is not the start stop model. Intresting this is it also clicks when on jumper.
Thanks for reply

Plus 1 ref the battery as indeed if there 4-5 x years old that seems to be the normal life of a battery on these seeing there so power hungry

really hope the crank hasn’t gone seeing they can fail out of the blue for no reason, if in doubt twee if u can turn it over with a socket and bar

want to see a minimum of 12.6 Vdc with the engine off, plus getting it on a scanner will aid in seeing if there are any other issues

plse let us know how u get on

Garnering my wizard hat with a raised eyebrow, worth checking out the alternator as this will be the next culprit to the battery.

My fear is a spun bearing, how would i crank it without removing fan ect is it possible from underneeth?

My scanner shows no issues on the V6 appart from gen a and bus, battery was 2021 so just 1 year.
Thanks

Seems strange that it just stopped with no warning, cannot see it being the battery, would also assume if it was the alternator you would have had a warning of some sort
I assume the car is now at home? if so I would be trying to rotate the crank before spending a penny on it.
