Hi Folks, I’d be very grateful for any members with recent encounters of the P1672 DTC on a 2005 4.4 Vogue to be able to support me in trying to persuade a Dutch main dealer that insisting on replacing the fuel pump might be barking up the wrong tree....

Firstly I know arguing with a Dutchman who’s more interested in selling new electric Jags, but who has custody of your Rangey after last nights football result probably isn’t the best idea - but thats where RAC international rescue dropped it off.... Anyway...

Car has been idle for two weeks, had flat battery on my return - was down to 8 volts. Put it on charge, up to 13.6 volts (battery about 6 months old), Connected back up, engine turned over beautifully, but no start - not sure why, but my impulse was electronic rather than mechanical, plugged my code reader in, found P1672 immobilisation ECU code exchange fault, last occurrence plausibility. Cleared fault, locked, unlocked of course still not starting and code returned.

I have a few days work in Netherlands, fortunately my insurance covers European breakdown, so they came and looked - saw the same code, and agreed - yes you must go to Land Rover, which we did.

I showed the service manager a photo of my code reader, and he wrote the code down, said sure, we’ll fix it tomorrow. I left fairly content in that today I’d get a call to pick it up, with a bill for 30 mins work re-programming the sync or handshake between immobiliser and main body ECU. I chased mid afternoon, as I hadn’t heard anything, then about 10 minutes before they closed the RAC phoned me back to ask if garage have authorisation to fit a new fuel pump. Slightly taken back I asked what they’ve done - RAC didn't know, garage now closed and its a long weekend with bank holiday Monday, slightly out of sync with our won - so I cant talk to anyone at the garage by then, and by which I need to be back in UK - so i guess I’m leaving it with them, and flying back...

Ive read snippets on this and other forums that helped me form my conclusions - can anyone who has gone through this advise if a fuel pump ever was a cause? Sure, yes for not starting, but not for P1672 code. Can anyone who has gone through this describe the procedure that a LR tech might do to re-sync the immobiliser to ECU, or if you have done your self before, what kit/gadget did you use?

My plan is to ask them to go through the procedure as if the fitted a new immobiliser.

If they still want to fit a fuel pump, then I plan to say if it doesn’t fix it then I’m not paying for it.

Any other suggestions or tips most welcome - thanks in advance!

PS - if any other L322 owners read this who are based in Netherlands, please get in touch - I’d really like your “local” advice about where to go for service/support
