Breathing advice please...

I've just bought a defender with a Disco 200tdi engine fitted... It looks and works ok but the air box is a bit of a bodge - I think it's probably the old one from the original Defender TD. Before I do anything with it, I wondered what advice everyone had - could I fit a K&N style filter? It's got a snorkel properly fitted at the moment but TBH not sure how good it would be wading as the old filter is on upside down - the split rubber valve thingy is pointing up!! I'll never go wading anyway so not really bothered about losing that ability...more about making it easier to maintain and getting the best out of the engine...

Personaly i would sell the snork if not needed and buy a decent open filter

The original td one was on a three legged base that is secured to the chassis so it can't be the original. Get a picture up...

Most likely it's the original Disco air filter unit. If you stick up a pick-a-ture we can have a look and advise better.
