Brakes

Td5/2001.
I have just changed my front discs and pads with APEC discs and pads.ive done about 80 miles since fitting them and now the brake pedal is now juddering.
I have noticed that the rear discs and pads are pretty knackered though.is it the rear that's causing the judder,or are the APEC ones warped already???

As you know most of the brakeing is done on the front even more so if the rears are shot .they are probably warped
do your rears first
I know moneys tight theses days but dont buy budget brake parts for a road vehicle esp a heffty 4x4

Are you sure the wheels were/ are spinning freely when you changed the pads. Also did you replace any pins or did you use the old ones . To see if the disks are worn you take of road wheel your supposed to use a dial gauge... But if you fix in position a large drill bit close to the disk and spin the hub and watch the gap if it seems to run strait your ok this is all providing you have no play in your wheel bearings if the brakes were binding and still are the overheat is what was likely to have caused warping.

Stuck some new pads on the rear, naughty naughty they were only 1mm and cracked.seems to have sorted the juddering.taking for a further drive tomorrow.many thanks for your advice..

I think I will change all the caliper pistons at the end of the month though.and the rear discs.at the moment all wheels turn freely.

Cool as long as they are not binding or leaking no need to change your pistons. A good clean with an old tooth brush can do wonders, save your money untill they do .

The pads are chamfered one one edge does the chamfered edge go against the rotation ie at the bottom front and back??,took it on a run and brake pedal still juddering under light braking, and keeping my foot on the brake slightly while going slow it kicks back every rotation,please help as this is driving me mad, they are new parts and cost 140.00 notes for the discs and pads.

The chamfers edge should face the way the disk is rotating ie disk rotates toward the chamfer

If your peddle is juddering it is more than Likely warped disks or badly worn wheel bearings or there are so crap that the pads are causing judder you didn't get any oil/ brake fluid on them did you?

They are fitted chamfered edge facing down as disc rotates clockwise.if pads and discs are **** they are going back.i will go and strip everything out again to make sure nothing's on the pads or discs,thanks again

Before you take wheels off check for exsesive bearing play.

What's the best way to check mate

Hold top bottom of wheel try to wiggle in out and grab sides of tyre and wiggle .

Not really unless it was making the pads stick ie binding are you on about the outer seal the dust cover a piston has two seals one for dust and one for brake fluid.

once the dust cover is split it lets in crud which will stop the piston going back proper, it may have made you brake ver heat ,
you will be hard pushed to return your parts as they have been fitted and its hard to prove whos at fault
fitting new seals is not as easy as it sounds the dust ones can be a pain to stop in, give the seat a good clean with a brush on a drill

if indout do some reserch , watch some one on you tube etc

Agreed you must really clean the grove before fitting new ones .
