If youve accsess to a micrometre i would sugest check them all way round as it sounds like you may have a duff one. cant think of anything else assuming youve not got faulty abs if fitted

are u sure that one of the calipers is not baulked? ... put the car on stands, push the brake and ask somebody to go around and try to turn each wheel

Does it push back once per press of the brakes or repetidly? If it does it more than once does it get slower as the car slows down. How long ago after fitting the brakes did the problem start. And how long was your bedding in process, if you don't have warning lights first check the abs light is present(it is possible it's been removed and unless you look for it most people won't notice) I wouldn't bother checking the abs if the light is there and goes out as it should not until you've checked for warped discs. If the problem was from the moment you fitted them then check that the disks are seated on the hubs correctly. A piece of rust or crap will make the disks sit funny and give the same effect of being warped... Hope I've helped

Are you sure it's not the abs function working? It feels like a pulsing coming through the pedal as you brake and can be quite strong.

This should only happen when braking and if the system detects one or more wheels losing grip, like on gravel/snow/ice.

thanks too all its a 300tdi es model on a 1998 with ABS so now i will go away and scratch my head for a solution someone must have had this problem befor thanks too all

Just a quick tip - if you unplug the abs modulator you will still have std brakes, so does this "pushing back" still happen when the abs is unplugged?

Do this as it will help to diagnose the issue.

abs light goes out as normal If it does it more than once does it get slower as the car slows down yes it does like bump bump bump throgh the pedal??

sorry about the delay folks been poorly right fixed it first oo all the rer brake was siezed and there was 2 big grooves in the disk so i said sod it and went too lanranger and got new disks and pads all round for £130 and my m8 put them on for me £60 all new now thanks every one cheers ps never did find out what caused the grooves in the disks 1at the top and 1 at the bottom of the disk ????
