Hi
I new to this so bear with me.

I have an 52 defender TD5 XS. Some time ago i got lazy and had a chap change the front pads. Straight after the brakes became soft but bearable. Months after i damaged and replaced the pipe going to the driver rear caliper. Again brakes soft. Since, I found that the front driver front caliper had seized so replaced the pistons in the caliper. The brakes seemed to bleed ok for a bit and then found that they got soft and eventually needing to pump. I have found air in mainly the front passenger side every time and since also replaced the pistons in this caliper too. At no point have i lost fluid.

So.... decided that the master cylinder could be faulty having read the many threads on the web. Having changed the master cylinder i cant get any air or fluid to come through the passenger front caliper or the pipe leading to it with the exception of a couple of time. I was told the shuttle may need to be centralised so I have attempted various ways to do this without any luck. Also tested the abs relay and seems ok. Dont want to start taking modulator apart or replacing unless no option cos it looks like a bugger to get to.

My first issue is to get fluid running. Then i will be able to see if the master cylinder has solved my continued air in front brakes.

Any ideas out there?

you can try bleeding pipes to block by opening getting someone tp press pedal and tightening before letting pedal up then do outlet pipes if you havent access to kit,it works if blocks in good order

theres two into block front rear then outlets x 4 use plenty of rags /paper towel to soak fluid as it will remove paint off inner wing ive fitted quite a few new /used blocks that way

If you can get access to a Nanocom you can do a system bleed to each wheel. It was what cleared my ABS fault light. I just initiated each wheel high pressure cycle then cracked the nipple until I got clean fluid. LR told me I needed a new Modulator but mine's been working just dandy since I came up with my own solution. Thanks again to Ratty for the loan of his Nanocom. Without it I was unable to get the system to bleed properly.

cheers for that. need to locate one. going to give local block bled a go tomorrow and if no joy i will be on the hunt for a Nanocom. does seem to come up on a number of similar threads but i have had no lights up so not bothered with this yet. thanks for idea though.

just wondering how much fluid i should get through bleeding just one of the front brake lines at the abs block. i'm still getting loads of air bubbles after two full reservoir amounts of fluid. Thanks
