brake wobble or shudder

hi guys, I changed my brake pads and noticed a wobble on the steering wheel when braking from 50 mph.
I took the pads back off and noticed the outer edges of the braking area had a bit of rim to it. it looks as if the rusty part of the disc (the part that the business piece sits in) rubs it slightly. this part is a mil or so higher than the actual disc.I filed the edges of pads slightly, refitted them but the wobble is still there. Any help with this would be appreciated.

Was the wobble there before you did the work?

Personally, I change discs when I change the pads. Could be a warped disc and and the pads bounce off the highs and lows as the disc rotates.

If the discs are well within recommended thickness you could just get them faced

didnt notice it before i changed pads but you dont notice it till you brake from 50 and you cant go over 30 localy. it was only when we drove to aukland when we were on the state highways that i noticed.
I dont really know too much about these things, i just bolt new bits on. but i was thinking it might be warped disks

Sometimes brake pads need 'bedding in' it depends on the quality of the pads used I believe. You will have to search what's involved, but it's something like hard braking from 50mph a few times.

I've never had to do it, I only use Genuine parts or EBC pads which I think are a bit better then genuine.

I had the same trouble a few weeks ago, I striped the front brakes down disc's were thin replaced them. checked calipers one piston was slightly leaking stipped down calipers relaced pistons and seals new pads now runs and stops perfectly at all speeds.

cheers lads, think i will go down the new disc route, as for the pads used i am pretty sure they were mintex from island 4x4.

Bought an axle set of discs and pads from paddocks for £70. No bedding in or ineffective time, just worked properly from the installation. Not worth buggering about with anything less or cheaper IMHO.

I had a similar problem and it turned out I just needed to get my wheels balanced.

Light braking for 200 miles & they will probably bed in. If you brake hard or have braked hard then discs will or have warped.

Make sure the floating parts of your caliper are free as well.Thats the rods on the caliper carrier with the gaitors on that the hydraulic part bolts into .I had one siezed and one free which caused the caliper to rock slightly.It felt like a warped disc.

cheers lads for comments and tips, one last thing, easy or hard for fiiting new pistons and seals into calipers and any specialist tools needed

not done my td5 yet but have done loads on motorbikes. i imagine similar.
i pump the brakes to get the pistons out. if doing 2 calipers dont let the pistons come all the way out until both pistons extended. often leaving 1 pad in the caliper will stop the piston coming all the way out. keep an eye on brake fluid level. if using new pistons and seals then all you really need is some brake grease, normally red. then just a case of reconnecting calipers and bleeding.

i,ve had the same problem and it was the pins that the calipers slide on that were slightly worn. cheap and easy to replace.
