Hi guys
gotta a problem with the brake pump,as in its started to run all the time even when the key has been removeed from the ignition,i had to pull the relay to stop it this morning, there was no abs fault on the dash at this point, but on the way home this afternoon the abs warning came up,now could this be an accumulator problem?? or do you think the pump is knackered, anyone had a simular problem?

cheers guys

The only black relay in the fuse box. You can try and open the relay housing, little flat screwdriver helps a lot. Inside there is a coil and two contacts, probably one of them is fused together. You can free it (or even remove one of the contacts) to buy some time, but only real solution is a new relay. Do it quick, as the pump is not meant to be running all the time and it is WAY more expensive than the relay.

Sticking relay caught me out through the derby dales going down hill. If your accumulators still good you have about 25 good brake applications after the pump gives up from running. Change the relay as soon as you can. When you pull the old apart you'll see the melted contacts. keep a spare relay in the glove box - best way to do this is go to some non specialist scrappy and pull em from another p38 fuse box. I got 3x for 5p! RRP £32 each!

You'll find if both your brake and abs light is on the pumps kernackered. When you next start the car you wont have any brakes and the pedal will hit the floor.

Oh... and dont touch the pump after its run on...I lost my fingerprints for a few weeks!
