Brake disc replacement

Hi all, I just put new pads on my 98 xedi, i need to replace the discs too, the ones on mine are solid discs, what i want to know is can i do a straight swap with vented discs, or would i need diferant calipers. the main reason im asking is because i noticed there are two diferent types of caliper slide pins so i think maybe its becaus they used diferent calipers depending on the disc type. the pins on mine are all the same
