95 P38, resistance to brake pedal pressure then resistance overcome and brakes function properly. this doesn't happen again for perhaps another three or four brake activations. it means that prior to the resistance being overcome it is not possible to gently apply the brakes. also on brake application, regularly but not all the time, there is a loud clicking noise. please can someone give some clues?

Look at Range Rover Renovations, an American site. Your problem sounds dangerously like the problem described on that site which can lead to total brake failure.:eek::eek:

Google Range Rover Renovations

I had the same problem with my classic. Googled Range Rover renovations and could only find Rover Renovations. An EAS site. Can you post the link please.
Mind you Brakes working ok ATM. But the ABS light is now on all the time
