I drove the car for about 300km (Highway, city, mountain road) and I finally have rock steady brakes!

Range Rover 1995 V8 4.6 80,000Km

My problem was as follow... The Brake pedal will start making a "Click" noise and then will have a HUGE PLAY until it will brake a second pump on the brake will give immediate brake. This "Phenomena" only appears after a certain period of brake inactivity while driving (Highway) but never in the city.

The culprit : BOOSTER-ABS STC2778

Apparently, and this has been also discussed here, this problem touch only Range Rovers prior to 99. There is a thread on another forum where a Australian Range Rover enthusiast explained what is going on. Apparently there is inside of any BOOSTER-ABS STC2778 prior to 99 a plastic washer mounted on a spring... This washer will break after being used heavily like in the City for Example. BOOSTER-ABS after 99 comes with a Metallic Washer that does not break.

3 Solution

1. It is serviceable! The Gentleman in Australia can repair it for you at a cost. It can find a BOOSTER for you, replace the washer and send you everything. I contacted this person but unfortunately timing was an issue for me, and he was pretty busy

2. Second Hand booster. You can give it a try (what I did) but it is like playing the Russian roulette, as least it was for me... It work perfectly for 200km and then it broke again.

3. Getting a brand New booster. It cost me quite a lot but I received a Booster from 2008 Brand news and installed it. Now call my paranoiac but the Pump stared to make some rather STRANGE noises (High Pitch ones) so I also replaced the PUMP as well.

Good luck if you have such problem.
