Brake Bleeding

hiya guys, just a quick question.
am i right and thinking that i can just attach a pipe from bleed nipple to a tub of brake fluid, open the nipple and just pump the brake, while leaveing the nipple open, and wait till the air bubbles stop. ???

:eek: err ? tell me your kidding right ? the bleed nipple is for DRAINING the brake fluid not filling it. :doh:

do you happen to be a friend of that gresham bloke ? :confused:

A bit more to it than that.

If the system has been drained and you never clamped off a flexi for example when you changed a wheel cylinder or so on, then its a complete bleed.

Start at the n/s rear then o/s rear the n/s front and so on.

With your bottle of fluid, tube on the bleeder and in the bottle to stop air getting back in and to watch for bubbles, and the filler cap off, and regularilly topped up as you go.

Bleeder shut off, get somebody to pump the pedal a few times until there is a bit of pressure, then hold it down. open the bleeder until the pedal goes to the floor then shut off the bleeder. continue this process untill all air is gone and you have done all four.

If you just pump the pedal with it open it often pulls fluid back in and wont bleed properly.

On real bastid ones you can stick a washer pump onto the bleeder and force the fluid back up to the resovoir, but seldom had to do that.

Remember to use fresh fluid since it is hydroscopic and an out of date bottle can be contaminated with moisture.

thanks for the advice mate, thats exactly what ive been doing, just i was sat in the local pub and some one said i didnt have to nip the nipple back up, he said just leave it open and pump, i thought he was wrong, just double checking.

You are joking, I got one new this year and followed the instructions 44mm cap a thin rubber seal, make sure the seal/cap is air tight but as soon as I filled it up with fluid the cap started to leak, very messy :) fluid all over the place.. So I went back to my old one man system a bit of tube with a one way valve in the end that I have used for 25 years man & boy ...Job done

back to eezi bleeds though, I have no trouble with mine. Done my old N/A, my 300 and my V8 LTWT no problem. Are you using too high a pressure? you only need ~10psi or so.

Or am i just the master mechanic? :D *snigger
