Hi to all, I have a manual P38 DT after moving from lots of 200 and 300 Discos and Rangie 4.6hse. I love the Rangie to bits, but it has such a poor bottom end power delivery it makes towing stressful to say the least. I find I have to build over 2000 rpm and slip the clutch like mad to get it going, but once above 2500rpm it pulls really well and this was only 2 tonnes behind. It makes the Discos seem like trains in comparison.

I have just read the threads about the tuning boxes and I am not worried about the MPG "gains", I just need more bottom end grunt. Will these tuning boxes fix the issue, do I need to do more to it or am I fighting a loosing battle with this little straight six engine??

I'd love some sensible answers to get the old girl going well.

Thanks Pee

The power box is good with the auto box although it destroys the box but it makes little difference below 2500rpm so won't really help you with a manual. I would look at a custom remap with the aim of improving low end torque rather than boosting top end power.

The only way to increase bottom end grunt as you call it (below where turbo becomes effective) is to slighlty increase the fuelling. Being an EDC system you will have to do this by electronic means. There are chips and plug in boxes around that claim to give better bottom end power. Do a search. Try Diesel Bob tuning for a start. Ring him and have a talk he will tell you straight what you can expect without any of the bull****.

Thanks for the info.

Are all the P38 dt this gutless on the low rpm or did I get a dog. I have put it up against a lot newer dhse and mine was far quicker up to 80mph.

Thanks Pee

You need an automatic for towing manuals aren't much good. The BMW 2.5 below 2500 rpm is fuelled very weak for emission reasons.

Thanks,

The Synergy tuning box seems to have low end adjustable fueling??? Has anybody have any opinions or even tried this one?

Is the any difference between the PSI tuning and the synergy or are they much of a muchness??

Many thanks Pee

Don't know the synergy, but the PSI box does nothing below 2500rpm when the power kicks in with a real whack. I have the version for the EGR engine, might sell it, PM me if you are interested:) If your engine has the EGR, you can I'm told get a bit more bottom end by blocking the EGR valve.
