Ayup,

Just a quicky:

Is my 1986 2.5 N/A 90 likely to have a Bosch or a Lucas fuel pump (or something else for that matter)?

Thanks in advance

we dont know, have a look... if its been replaced it could be anything, and being that old the chances of it being replaced since 86 is quite high. so i couldnt tell you what it is. if your after a new one, just make sure its for a n/a of that year. problem solved :)

My 1986 2.5NA 90 has a Lucas injector. I had a look at it a while back as I had done quite a bit of investigation into the whole veg-oil thing. As you say, Bosch is supposed to be OK, but Lucas probably won't take it well. I am pretty sure that almost all sites agree on this, and even users of other fora are of the same opinion.
If you do decide to go for it I would be really interested to see how you get on; I haven't quite gotr the bootle to just try it anyway!

well I put 2 litres of bog standard veg oil from Aldi into a half full tank today and gave her a good shake. It's running brilliantly! I'm going to knock the ratio up a bit over the coming weeks. (2 litres isn't going to have much of an effect really is it!?)

Obviously you're aware of the tax implications of doing this ;)
Not sure where you are, but I've definitely seen the Fuel Police parked up at Sainsburys at the White Rose checking vehicles.

hello Gents...

Dieselveg, The site has useful information regarding taxation.....

As from June 30th you may use veg oil in your tank up to.. depending on your mpg.... so as an example if your wagon does 25mpg you can do 13,748 miles on veg oil with out registering for VAT and you can legitimately go into your supermarket and pour the oil in.....

from what i have been able to gleam from the internet and accepted wisdom Bosch is best for straight oil while the lucas your advised to have a heating device and a twin tank system....

Hi,

Yes you can mix small quantities of veg oil in with you diesel, just put in the tank, although I would not recommend high leval's without conversion, Especially with the Lucas Cav Pumps. Doing so will stress your injection pump considerably due to the high viscosity of veg oil when not heated. This could result in failier or a reduced life of your pump (and they are not cheap). You should look at doing a dual tank conversion or at least fitting a heat exchanger (not electric glow plug type) We manufacture Veg Oil Heat Exchangers our web site is Sunshine Fuel - Diesel to Vegetable oil conversions Sorry to plug our site, but if I can be of any assistance with your conversions then please let me know.
