Evening ladies and gents,

The boot on my 300 tdi is going to need welding before it's MOT in May.

I don't have the skills to do the welding, or the time... my local Landi specialist has quoted up to 24 hours labour to do it... one hell of a bill!! They have done plenty of work for me before so I know they will do a top notch job though.

How much has anyone else paid for this? Is there anyone in Essex who fancies earning some beer tokens?

Cheers Pete

24hrs they're having a fooking laugh. I could do the job on my own in a day & I'm not a welder & don'tt have a workshop full of tools. £200--£300, is the most you should be paying. Loads of peeps from round essex way on here I'm sure one of them will be able to help you out.

now then, i dont live in essex for a start so cant help there , but having done welding to the boot area before 24 hrs labour aint to bad its a right **** job easy to weld my arse . rust rust and more rust find your self a bbf that can weld . best of luck bud hope it dont cost you to much .

FFS it takes a couple of hours to clear the seats & carpets and cut the full floor panel out. Unless the sides & arches are rotten the new floor will drop straight in. and it doesn't take 21 hours of continuous welding to weld a floor in. That's 3 full days FFS.

I'm no welder, but I did mine last year... took me about 12-15 hours over a bout a week (rained on a few days and I didn't fancy welding in that!) It took longer to drill out all the spot welds and cut out the rot than it did to weld the new pieces in and replace the floor... did a bit of chasis and put new shocks on the back at the same time... saved me self a packet!

Have you got any pics of how bad the floor is?
It might not need a whole new floor. I have a K plate disco and not the whole floor needed doing.
Mind you I did have to do all 4 inner arches and also the rear body mounts.

So in summary then 24hrs @ £42 +vat to do a boot floor is taking the ****, and you need to. Either buy a welder and do it yourself. Or find someone local to you that can weld and pay them to do it for you. Or you could just Poprivet the new floor in place.. your self.??

Depends on the MOT person.....last one I had said he wanted it similar to how it left the factory - but passed it with a load of MIG stitch welds round the outside instead of spots

:nospamhere:Hi Pete I may be able to giv you a better price than that fella. I'm a mobile welder and done loads on cars too so if you want PM me your number and I'll give you a call. I can tell you one thing it'll be way less than half your original quote. I'll wait for the grief for spaming off you all too.:):)
