Boomslang Loom Issues

In the middle of fitting a Boomslang loom to mh 04 TD5 but cant get it to work...

I followed AI203s Thread and extended the earths through the loom back to the battery.

Hooked everything up but nothing. No light at all but I can hear the relays clicking on and off.

I have headlights without the loom connected. Am I missing something?

Mine was a pretty simple procedure:
- Live back to the battery and fused inline. Earths to a couple of bolts near the headlights, make sure the earth is good (I had problems here later on)
- The three pin plug from the N/S headlight connects to the Boomslang male three pin plug on the loom to signal the relays
- The two female three pin plugs connect to each headlight.

From that i got mine going. I have failed an MOT on it before as main lights come on with sidelights. I just plugged the old system back in for the re-test.

If you are having issues I would :
- Check the fuse (I'm sure you already have)
- Get an ammeter out and see if you are getting power to the relays and then onward.
- Check your earth

Let me know if you don't have any luck and I will have a look over my setup to see if there is anything obvious.

Fuse is good.
Earth is direct back to the battery
12v at the fuse
0v at the H4 connector
Relays click on and off with the switch

Is it going to LED or conventional headlight units ?
- Have you done a continuity test from H4 to the relays ?
- I can't think of what else can go wrong
- When the relays are switched do you get 12v on the headlight side of them ?

It's a good 'simple' mod and definitely worth pursuing.

Normal wipac crystals with Nightbreaker bulbs

- Have you done a continuity test from H4 to the relays ?
Not the best the leccy stuff, i do have a voltmeter how exactly do I check?

- I can't think of what else can go wrong

- When the relays are switched do you get 12v on the headlight side of them ?
0v What ever happens

It's a good 'simple' mod and definitely worth pursuing.

If you look at a relay, the connections are numbered.Little drawing on the relay.

Normally:

85 and 86 are the switch wires. they make it go click.

30 is the main 12V supply ,87 would be the connetor that goes to the bulb,

Assuming on that picture.

Top Blue wire incoming and then using a red jumper to the other block is the main fused 12V supply form the battery.

So botttom of that picture you have:

Left hand side 1 black wire. Where is that meant to go? DO you have 12V when relay is made?

Right hand side 2 red wires : Where are they meant to go? Do you have 12V when relay is made?

Thats the diagram.

Im giving up.with it. It makes no sense.

The blue is the earth but on the bulb thats the high beam

Well it does make sense, would be nice if they had goioven a bit more info.

You done this yet?

Disconnect both sides of you loom headlights.

Connect boom slang to headlights

Conect 1 side of the loom to power/switch the relays.

Tape up the other feed from your lights.

I throwed the distructions away

What I did! Had no lights!

ok.have you the following
Good earth
12v to relays ok?
12v feed from light switch?
12v feed on high beam?
Without these it won't switch the relays

Earth was extended direct back to battery
Had 12v at the fuse
12v relay - Didnt check but they clicked when i flicked the headlight switch/highbeam switch - so I assume yes
12v high beam as above

Ive stopped for the day as got a few other things to get on with but Ill come back to this.

Clearer pic.

The lower light blue cable coming from the conduit is the earth for each light.

The larger conduit has cable run for one H4 male and one H4 female

Looking at that fuse holder and the wires going into it I am not exactly impressed. Interesting just seen a thread on another forum having problems caused by that fuse holder. Have a look at the problems associated with that loom here

lol i put those wires in

the loom would have you put the fuse inside the battery box. No good for me as I have buckets, so moved the fuse to the engine bay.
