Bonnet Release

99 Disco 2 problems are becoming a bi monthly event !!! Injector harness gave up a month or so ago, Top hose blew 2 weeks ago, I've developed a power steering box leak resembling something out of Friday 13th and now the bonnet release handle has snapped! I've tried pulling it with mole grips and now entire cable (inner, outer and looped end) has pulled through to the passenger foot well.
Searching the forums it appears that it's possible to release the latch with a long screwdriver through the grille. Has anyone done this and any tips going to help, I could do with this not being a 6 hr job really. Thanks in advance.

I would say 6 and a half hours and don't stop for a brew either.

Bi monthly, thought that was a magazine subscription

Well, f*** me I guess this is either a longbridge friday special or this has happened before. No security shroud, just insert long screwdriver push arm sideways, bonnet opens. Leaves me with 6hrs and 15 minutes to work out a temporary/permanent bodge/fix Your positivity paid off diesel dog

I read that one owner thought that destroying the grill was the way to go in gaining access to the catch, the theory being replacement grills are plentiful and cheap on eBay at the time and the job will only take 15mins or so including a tea break.

That may be the case but not for this one, a long screwdriver and it's open but no sign of a security shroud so this may not be the first time this has happened on this heap of sh**!
