Hi all. This is a problem well traversed on various chats but I still can't find a solution. The release on my 110 has failed and I can't get the bonnet open to try to fix the problem. I assume the cable in the photos included was attached to the release mechanism, and has therefore come away from the release mechanism itself. As such, I can't pull the cable with pliers and release the bonnet that way. I need to access the release mechanism itself but can't see how. If I have understood other forums correctly, the black bulb type object (seen roughly in line with the 'N' on the Defender label in photo 2) is a security cover for the locking pin, and I could hack/chisel it off. If I did this I'd want to know that it was going to allow access to the release catch but I can't see how it would. Any ideas much appreciated.

The problem is, this is a security issue and it's unlikely anyone will give you this information on a public forum, particularly as you are not a known member of the forum.

My advice in your situation would be to take the Land Rover to any garage that deals with Defenders and they will be able to open the bonnet for you without damaging the vehicle.
