Tape a length of stout string to the old cable, then pull the cable through from the inside, which will draw the string through the route the cable took. Then securely tape the new cable to the string, and carefully pull the new cable back through, stopping when the inside section of the cable is in the correct position for the lever. 
Thankyou for your reply how do you get the cable hooked back on the mechanism at the bonnet end as you can’t access it or is it a matter of removing the front bumper to gain access as the slam panel appears to be double thickness and the cable runs in between them many thanksTape a length of stout string to the old cable, then pull the cable through from the inside, which will draw the string through the route the cable took.
