Hi, I have just fitted two 100w spot lights on my A-bar.
I wired them up to the fog light loom as my car never came with the lower fog lamps. I fitted the front fog lamp switch inside my car which lights up when the lights are switched on. when I pushed my switch my dash lights went off as did my rear/front lights. It turned out to be a 20amp fuse under the bonnet.

My question is:

Do I need to put a higer grade fuse in?

or

Is there a fault on the spots/ wiring?

Too high power lights for the factory loom , I would have thought . Also spots , driving lights , are supposed to be wired so they can only come on with the full beams . You would be better off wiring them up with their own relay and a trigger wire from the high beam . Wouldnt advise changing the amperage of one of the main circuit fuses . Fog lights , with a frosted lense are another matter . MOT and construction and use apply here , I think .

Nothing is every easy on a disco!! I will try and sort something out but wanted to keep the OEM fog light switch :( could I wire standard fogs straight to the loom? and not need to do anything?

Book says front fogs 55w each . Although the book is just a bunch of paper , wheres Fanatic .....well , I dont think he's made of paper :D:D:D

Could be faulty wiring or over loading of the circuit will also pop the fuse, take out the bulbs and see what happens. The standard front fog lamp circuit is designed for a pair of 55watt bulbs switched by one relay.

If I change my 100w bulbs out of the spots and fit 50w bulbs in could I use the standard wiring loom? Could I not add anything extra on the end of the loom to make it cope with the 100w bulbs?

Yes add a relay, wire direct to Battery using appropriate wiring and fuse. then trigger the relay by taking a feed from the HIgh beam feed wire.

Extra wire on the end of the loom?
No not on the end but in parallel as an overlay with the existing but if you have to do that why not install wiring capable of taking the load and disregard the existing.

Why do you want 100watt bulbs they don't give twice the amount of light as a 50-55watt bulb, it's the same with sound from speakers, doubling the size of the amp doesn't make it twice as loud.
I won't go into the science bit I'll let you google that as there's alot of it.

Land-Rover wire for driving lamps similar to the above but on the 300 series they pick up there supplies from the emgine bay fuse so not directly to the battery also the main beam is still used and picked up for relay switching from the main loom just below the fuse box.
