Blinkin Gearbox Lights

Am having a run of bad luck with Disco TD5 auto.
Its been dripping diesel on the drive, the ignition key won't turn leaving me stranded at work.

And now to cap it all the gearbox 'M' and 'S' lights have started flashin'

The handbook says this is a 'gearbox electrical fault'
Does this mean a definite trip to the garage, or does anyone have some ideas to try before I take it in ?

As an aside, has anyone bought one the workshop manual CD's off ebay ? Are they any good?

download the manuals for free off the net. dont pay anyone off ebay esp.

they also contain the tester SW. get the correct cables and turn your lappy into a rave or T4 test puter.

I wasn't aware you could download them off the net, I bought mine from ebay - it is excellent, very detailed.

Whats this cable called n where can I buy one?

I had this problem once, this hint came from a 'service engineer' at a main dealer.
I set off before the 'gearbox electrics' had time to register what was happening and the M & S lights started. Like u, I s?£t myself thinking big bill time. He advised, put the 'stick' in Drive, move forward slightly -Stop-Reverse slightly-stop- then repeat 'a few' times. At first I thought he was pulling my pud, but it worked. Apparently, it lets the 'electrics' reconfigure or something!

Any dealer engineers/mechanics able to confirm this one?

Tried what you suggested this morning before taking to the garage this morning and unfortunately it didn't make any difference.

So dropped the car off and went to work, on going to collect it tonight the garage owner laughed and said, soon as he went to move it no sign of the problem even after driving it around and turning it on and off!!

Amazing how many ways you can look like a muppet!!!

Anyway I guess I just need to wait and see if there is a next time
