hi all . i want to bleed the brakes on my 2000 4.6 v8 vogue , there appears to be a lot of travel on the pedal ? had new pads on rear recently and front pads are ok . so anyone tell me the way to do this properly please ??? cheers m/crmozz:)

When i replaced my abs modulator i had to do a full fluid change, and bled the brakes on my own with a £4 one way brake bleed kit.
Brakes are now spot on :D

And before anyone says, yes it would be easier with two people ;)

Was i the only person who read this post and was more than a little concerned, that someone was asking how to bleed air from the brakes ??......surely this is one of the most crucial parts of a car, which if you have to ask how to do it, then you should leave well alone !!!!

Not really,

Brake bleeding procedures vary from car to car. Some commonly sold brake bleeding kits will not even do ABS equiped cars. So its a legitimate question.
The P38 requires an ABS bleeding kit such as Gunson Ezibleed or its ilk. But be careful, even the gunson doesn't have a cap that fits the P38 reservoir very well, I've bodged a specific cap from a scrapped P38 lid. Once you have the right kit its very straightforward for one person.

The brake bleeding proceedure for the P38 is unique, better to ask the question than arrogantly presume you know all and proceed to screw up:p

The definiton of a good engineer is not that they know all the answers, but that they know where to find the answers and apply said answers:D

So far ....... YES :D:D:D

My reply to the post was never to cause any arguements or start any fights....sorry to all who thought it was, brakes on a car are one of it's most important safety items.

I have asked for advice many times on the forum and have always recieved invaluable help, hopefully i have also helped a few people in the past.

As regarding your comment about the brain cell, was that really called for ??, hope it made you feel clever.

your statement above i.e. INVALUABLE HELP sums it up ,thats all i was asking for ,NOT the adverse remarks ,others reading it agreed with my comments .and after all it was your comments that set the ball rolling ,so obviously having read all the other comments it was you feeling clever at the time. maybe you should abstain from posting if you cant come up with something constructive . anyway this is my last comment on the subject and thank all who gave constructive advice . kind regards manchester mozz:)

Not sure if there is any diff on yr motor but its very easy do blead most breaks.
Get a coffee jar n some pipe that will fit nice on yr blead nipple, drill 2 holes in jar lid 1 for breather n 1 for pipe quarter fill jar with fluid crack nipple fit pip on put other end of pipe in coffee jar.(make sure pipe is in fluid)
Just crack the nipple enough so fluid will come out under pressure start motor up top up master cylinder, pump peddle smoothly a few times then tighten up nipple.
Repeat on the rest then if you want to pay yr local mot garage a 10 ner and he will test em for ya.
THE LONGER THE BREAK PIPE THE MORE PUMPS YOU WILL NEED...

For what it's worth as has been pointed out on other threads this is a PUBLIC FORUM

IMHO Bob is quite right to point out that the brakes on a car are one of it's most important safety items.

You will recieve all sorts of advice mostly good some that you may need to think carefully about and a few ribbing comments that aren't normally intended to offend.
Mostly folk'll say if someone's trying to tell you to do the wrong thing, but thats not what Bob was saying.

At the end of the day it's up to you to take or ignore advice/comments :D

That aint the way you do it on a P38, go read RAVE or wind yer neck in:violent:

read it again b4 u comment or are u a complete ahole....

(Not sure if there is any diff on yr motor but its very easy do blead most breaks.)!!!!!!

Perhaps you would like me to send you the 3 relavant pages of RAVE? For a start you have to de pressurise the system. See page 1 of the ABS/Brakes section, you also have to bleed the master cylinder, see page 2 etc:p

jeez, we're all a bit hormonal on this thread!!

Landyman, Datatek has near 3000 posts here, the vast majority of which are constructive so while I dont always agree with everything he says, he's actually not often wrong. In this case he's 100% right so while he can be a PITA, an ahole he aint :p
You're going to have to earn the right to call the f**ker an a**hole :)

Your description of brake bleeding is perfect for most cars but the P38 is just that bit different.

Bob, for what its worth, I think you came in for undue crap for what was a well intentioned if slightly sanctemoneous post, one of the vagueries of faceless forums and you've responded honourably
