bit of help please???

just been to pick my mrs up from work and turned the car off whislt waiting, then went to turn the car over and nothing, battery light and the choke light come on as always but turn the key and dead.
first thought the starter, tried rocking it and hitting the starter but no change then linked up to a mates car and it kind of tried but was very very weak so ruled the starter out, and now thinking the battery as i got towed and bumped it, so am i right in thinking the battery is just a dud and needs a new one as ive had it before when even off a jump it still wont start. also now ive just gone out and when i turn the ignition theres about a 2 second delay before any of the dash lights come on.

any advice please on what else it might be?????

Sounds like batt gone duff,modern batts often go Tommy Cooper[just like that]but try an over night charge and check belt tension and connections.

bad earth rusted and fallen off.

have you tried a jump lead from negative terminal to engine block?? is your handbrake gone stiff?

hi all thanks for the help but i sorted it thismorning with a fresh head, checked all the earths and surprisingly they were all ok so i took a second look at the fuse box. its obviously been re wired at some point but "terribly". The fuse for the start solenoid looked ok but the wire on the back had been wired by a pikey, by this i mean 2 wires had been stripped and twisted together then wrapped in tape haha so reconnected and used a heatshrink connector and hey presto it starts. but thankyou for the help
