Bit of 3rd gear whine

IveI hot a bit of a whine in 3rd gear on my 1997 P38 2.5 DT manual, 166k or so on the clocks. Is this to be expected, or should I be concerned. It's not overly loud, just louder than the other gears.

Probably ain't nofink in there lol

Check oil level first off, maybe layshaft bearings.

Unhitch the dog from the tow-ball.

Cheers chaps, I'll get under it at the weekend and give the fluid levels (and condition!) a check over. Just thought I would ask on the off chance 'they all do that sir'

I thought that was a factory fitted feature, not to be removed....!?

The dog, not the tow-ball. The tow-ball should store away in the polystyrene thing in the wheel well.

Ahh, I've only just bought my P38, I assumed the canine accessory was factory fit too....

In other news, it's not specifically related to 3rd gear, it's more of a drivetrain noise, most prevalent between 25 and 35ish mph - I'll give the whole drivetrain a good check over when I get chance - make sure it actually has fluids and the like in it
