Hi can anyone help me identify an extra part which is bolted to the back end of my 81 RR transfer box ,It has Fairey winch co in raised letters which makes me think it is some kind of o/drive unit but i can't see what it does.It seems to be operated by a pin which slides in and out through the rear face and engages either fully in or fully out with neutral in between which disengages everything .
It would be nice to know what it does and how it is supposed to work,Thanks Brian.

Hi , I think you may have fitted a Fairy Winch Overdrive unit. Only thing I could find on the web was at: -http://www.off-road.com/4x4web/tlcal/v1n85.htm
about half way down the page posted by a Ron Bauman.
I can remember them selling them years ago but would have thought you would have a leaver some where! It increase your ratio in all gears by 28%.

Get it working!

Regards.

Thanks for all the help ,I am still stripping the car down for rebuild so am unable to road test it to check ratios but I think it probably is an overdrive unit .
It does have an operating lever which moves the afformentioned pin in and out .
I will let you know when i eventually get the car (off) roadworthy.
Thanks again Brian
