Hi all,

I am looking at changing my tyres in the next month or so and wanted to get some suggestions.

At the minute i have four general grabber tr tyres on 235/85 r16

However i have been looking around abit and wondered what these bf goodrich at tyres are like

2 summer tyres 235/85 R16 120S BFGOODRICH All Terrain TA KO | eBay

Really i am looking for a good tyre that will last well and be capable of doing the odd bit of mild off road with road use being the main use of the tyre.

I am also considering whether to get the 265/75 r16 tyre size instead of 235's

but i wanted to check that these will fit on my standard height defender CSW 90 without any adjustment no rubbing or messing about.

Also i heard that these bf's were a very capable good all rounder and were good at road noise.

Any thoughts guys

My uncles defender has 265/75 r16 bfg ats on his and they fit ok with just a little bit of rubbing on the radius arms on full lock.

They last well too, they've done 80000 miles and still have tread left. He does a lot of towing with them as well

I was a big fan of BF Goodridge until earlier this year, a group of us did a trip across Morocco. One guy had a new set of BF's. Two other guys were running General Grabbers AT2's. I had an old set of Trac edge which I was finishing off. The BF's did not stand up to the job. The tread was very badly shredded. All the others were fine covering the same terrain. I have since replaced my trac edge's and bought General Grabber AT2's which I am happy with.

im another fan of at2's over bfg's

bfg's may last longer but thats because they have a harder tread, this means they dont grip the ground as well and cut easier on sharp rocks, their also much more expencive than any other competitors

im probably going for some AT3'sor cooper stmaxx's on my disco for similar uses as you aswell as a trip top morrocco

Like i say the main use for me is road and towing a boat. But id like to still have that capability to use my landy occasional on the odd field or lane!

Who makes the at'2 are they general grabber at'2?

I have 235/85/r16 BFG AT's on mine, I have a 2" lift now but I had them fitted with 26 year old sagging springs before without any rubbing anywhere.

It's not hard to lockup in the wet if braking hard though that's my only gripe. Other than that they're great, hardly any road noise and hard wearing.

Mine has 3 BFG AT tyres and 1 General grabber AT2! They are 265 75 r16 with standard height suspension and don't rub at all.

Forgot to add I drive 30 miles round trip through country lanes, they grip in the rain really well, seem to be pretty good on muddy roads and hard braking . I've had no scary moments with them anyway and I'd certainly buy another set

That's because the lock-stops aren't adjusted correctly, adjust them and they won't rub.

BFG AT in 265/75x16 was a factory fit option for many years and suit the vehicle very well. I have been running them for nearly 15-years and really like them. They grip well, are quiet and have amazing wear characteristics (75K+ miles is quite common). Also in all that time I have only had 1-puncture and that was within a week of that set being fitted.

Incidentally I am currently looking for a new package and speaking to some dealers the Cooper ST Maxx is thought very highly of. I commented that I like my BFG's but they said that the new ones, while still being very good are not like the ones I have had in the past. Food for thought?

The old bfg mud pattern wasn't bad . I had 2 sets of them over the years but this time I had to get the new pattern . not impressed . prefer the Insa traction tracks all though there is a bit of road noise . both sets are 265/75/16 and no clearance issues even when towing well over 3 ton on standard suspension

I run Bfg 265 75 R16, standard height room rubbing at all. Pretty sure they were standard fit when mine was new. Compound is hard, which is why they last a long time. You have to drive accordingly in the wet.

I bought a Landy with cooper discoverer stt on they did. 40k with me before I sold the truck and they were still good

My set where crap . I put em on brand new and within 25k they where goosed and thrown on the silage clamp . they wore down fast got badly perished then the tread started peeling off . they maybe don't like heavy trailer work and being on a farm ?

I have run my Defender with Coopers and Trac edge tires. I now have General Grabber AT2's. The AT2's are noticeably better in the wet. I am looking forward to tomorrow to see how they preform in the snow, we have snow forecast.
