Best way of removing siezed bolts?

Something close to every series owners hearts...

So trying to remove flywheel but the bolts are tight, I meant been a James Hunt tight...

I've tried releasing agent, and socket, then breaker bar, then hammer + impact driver.

I got thinking has anyone got any experiance with air impact tools, and are they worth the cash £35-70?

Also if anyones got are good idea's about removing fly wheel then they would be appreachiated - I don't want to chiesel off heads as thats big work to sort out (engine out job)...

should be able to do it with a good breaker bar about 2 foot long. are you locking the flywheel with something? you'll struggle otherwise.
I have a purposely bent valve that goes in a stud hole and neatly slots into the ring gear. does a grand job!
also try heating them with a blow torch.
air tools are worth the money as long as you have a big enough compressor to run them. i have a 2hp 50L sealey and thats not really enough for big or tight stuff with a buzz gun.
 
if you have some scafolding bar slide it over the spanner/ rachet handle and stand on the end :) ( if there is enough room ) to fit it on
 
Aldi had really cheap air tools recently. ok so not gonna be the best in the world - but for £10 you might as well give it a go :)

jump on a ratchet with a long bar, what a ****in good idea :eek::doh::doh:


yer a 2 ft bar will do it 1/2" drives fine

i have a lot of air tools, from 1/4 drive to 1" drive some in the £500 region and some aldi £12 tools, all have been worth every penny when yer stuck
 
cant beat a good set of air tools powerd by a big compresor, you need 1 about 1/2 as big again as your tools demand that way it should never straugle to keep up with demand
air gun is also the safest way of removing siezed bolts as the is no big bars to slip of rachets to brake with you crashing onto of them, if the bolt snaps when using the gun all that will happen is the sockot will spin and nothing should go flying
 
i suppose if you dont have that you could try a breaker bar and a hammer, but only if you dont have air tools
 
I just got some of those air tools from aldi, a drill for a tenner, a sheet nibbler for 13 quid, a cutoff thingy for seven quid and the 1/2" impact wrench thingy your on about for 13 quid.
I've used 1/2" chicago pneumatic air wrenches for years at work and they certainly do the job, you can even undo an alty nut while holding the alty, they work on impact not shear torque.
The aldi ones look exactly the same as chicago pneumatic, I think they are probably a copy, an exact copy, the only diffo is proabably the quality control will be more relaxed for the cheapies.
But get one for the cash, you'll not find cheaper.
They say you can tighten a bolt with an impact wrench to a torque that would shear the head of the bolt with a power bar alone.

ther exact copies mate, :) yer wont go wrong fer the money i cut the **** plastic handles off mine tho , and the rubber sleves off the shears, the ally is better than crappy ubber handles , they turn to jelly with petrol etc ;)

Saw that in the lastest deal magazine thing... 500NM of torque! :eek:

I use a old socket i jamed against the flywheel housing and the ring gear, Correct size socket and a 1/2" Bar
 
2ft breaker bar did the bizzo - along with some of that schmollie "freeze-your-nuts" off.

So I'd say that was probably a good controlled test yesterday no-way

Today easy - seriously I couldn't recommend that stuff more highly an absolute for every tool box.

I'm looking into air compressors torn between 2.5 Hp 50L (8CFM) & 3Hp 50L (12CFM) again later is 50% more expensive and can only really see benefits on hi-cap sparyers.

Any thoughts?
