You can do the IP by removing the cover plate, and the crank by the notch on the flywheel, but, given that i think that the timing may be out on the 300tdi, is there a way to do the cam without taking the cover off?

I guess, if i knew what i was doing, then watching the rockers would tell me... (?)

Ive got a belt kit ordered, but paddocks are being even slower than usual (ill give them some grace as its the festive period, but theyre never quick) but im impatient and want to see if the timing is out currently, before i do the belt properly.

Even someone that knew what they were doing would not be able to tell you it was a tooth out either way from watching the rockers. Can be done with tooling but not by eye. ;);)

ok - thanks for that - ill just wait on the belt and do the whole job at the same time

thanks again
