hi all

what would the best standerd clasical landy series be to buy.
it will be working as intended OFF ROAD but do not really want to do modifications,i like origanal.
what year and model what origanal specs

Hmm, Series 1 are nice...but a lot of the parts are more expensive and some difficult to get hold of.

I would go for a 2/2A/3. At the end of the day they are all pretty much the same anyway and there isn't much you can't either get on ebay or from well known stockists.

Trim though? I heard there is a GLX Super Plus Ghia Poplar model that has a cab light, a pair of rubber mats and a side stripe?

Naw, series 3, it has synchro gears and everything, all the mod cons of a normal car, get a later one, then you get servo assisted breaks, hi tech or what! I'd get a van top or a station wagon top if i were with safari back door. If you want a cab light, or to put it more accurately, light in the cab, get a keyring light.
Oh and an overdrive so you can cruise more comfortably and hear yourself think...just.
Great solid cars though.

Don't joke about air con and heating! If you want heat, you get it from engine whether you want it or not through the bulkhead and as for air con, you just open the vents (which I still think are very cool).

ok you got me on trim misused word fram what i gathered 2a has the better gearbox chassis more rust rsistent etc. i stay in south africa and within a 50km radius got 10+ offroad track the african tipe always had toyotas but looking for something to fit my .303 enfield, open site not scoped

I always think the S2/2a is what they came up with when they were all drunk at the tail-end of a stag party at the factory (position of headlights a case in point)... while the S3 is what they designed after sobering up and taking some aspirin
