Anyone know of any really good deals out there? I will need two new tyres soon - Pirelli Scorpion ST 255/55r18'S only - my RR hates anything else and tramlines very scarily if I use anything other than the Pirellis!!

Preferably mail / online order with mobile fitting service:):)

found a company that'll do 4 for £397-ish. Will try the guy next door to my work and see if he can do it for that. If not, I'll go with them. Also, only company I can find that does them instead of STR's. Bloody hard trying to find ST's nowadays. That includes VAT, Valves, Balancing, Disposal & Mobile Fitting in my postcode :)

Grr,

I had to get a couple of new tyres this morning (nail in one and the other a bit worn), I spent all morning phoning round trying to find some Pirelli Scorpion STs.

Having finally found some and making sure they were the right ones I drove 40 miles to get them fitted.

When I got back to the car I found that they're put STRs on instead.

Anyone know what the difference is? The tread doesn't look as aggressive. Are STRs any good, or should I insist they change them for what I asked for?

Off laning in a bit so I suppose I'll find out.

Grrr.

Well, I have one STR on the front offside, and oddly, although the ST is a more aggressive grip and more off-road orientated than the STR, it grips better on tarmac. My steering pulls to the left. Have changed tryes over to make sure it wasnt anything else and its straight and true with 2 ST's on't front. If i was you, I'd go back as they didnt put the right tyre on. I wouldnt have paid and left if they hadn't carried out what you asked them to.

I have str's on rear and st's on front orignaly they where the other way round but my car became dangerous to drive with str on front don't know why but my 02 only likes st's i paid £118 ea fitted for an st

Well I'd agree with that. The STRs on the front make the car almost dangerous on road - it wanders all over the place, even more so when dropped to the correct pressures - why do tyre places never get the pressures right - who could possibly think 48psi was anywhere near correct?) and they're absolutely hopeless off road.

Unfortunately after our little laning expedition this evening I think the chances of them taking them back are pretty remote so I'll try them on the back.

Grrr.

Well I phoned them this morning and without too much argument, he offered to order a pair of STs in and will replace them on Monday.

Fingers crossed. The STRs are truly awful.

Bad news - apparently there are no STs left anywhere in the UK.

I spose I'll have to go the General Grabber route instead.

Protyre across the road from me have them in stock :D

£436 fully fitted/balanced etc.

That's not a bad price. Merityre were also adamant they had STs which is why I went to them in the first place (after a whole morning of phoning around) - unfortunately it transpires that they have given STRs the same stock code as the STs, hence the confusion.

I've lost the will to live with these now. General Grabbers should be better off road anyway. As long as they can find some of these at a decent price I think I'll go down that route. I'm very impressed that they're willing to take the STRs back (although he did hedge his bet a bit today by saying that they had to be in good condition - hope my laning trip isn't too obvious).

All credit to Merityre, they have tried their hardest to sort this out for me.

Why are there so many bleeding nails on the roads anyway? Where do they all come from?
