Hi all,

New to these beasts and recently picked up an '03 TD4 which is in need of a few things before hopefully going on the road in the new year.
Leaving it with my local landyman for a clutch replacement :)eek:) soon and was debating getting the belt n tensioner kit for it too as there is a high pitched squeal plus rattling coming from there.
Have had a look around here and kits online. It seems the basic set i'd need is alternator and air con belt plus two tensioners. There are also £100 plus kits which seems to include everything for a complete overhaul. Considering what this clutch job will set me back, would it be best to get it checked out while there to see whats needed or could I get away with the basic kit?

I'd say you need a new crank damper/ pulley. These are a known failure point on the TD4. It's best to get it changed ASAP as crank failure can't be ruled out with a failed damper.

Ok, I think in that case I will get it checked out during the clutch job and go from there.

Came across this useful page about checking the condition of belts. Theres also a link in there about diagnosing belt noise / squealing.
