HI All

Can some one explain how lol ?

ok a bit of back ground,

i have a disco 1 , its lifted and i have 285/75/16 insa turbos fitted using
50mm wheel spacers on standard steel rims..( still cant get full lock )

so i wanna get rid of the wheel spacers because they well just aint too safe.
so spoke to a chap that sells offset wheels.

Apparently if i have a 35mm off set wheel i will be able to get full lock and will no
longer need the spacers.

so how the hell does that work ?

Because the wheels will sit further out, so allowing more lock before fowling on anything.
Adjust lock stops to suit.
Not the best explanation but gives you the gist

was trying to work out how 35mm offset works better than 50mm spacer
i guess its down to shape of actual wheel

But if you've got the opposite offset now it may work out more.
Others will know more than me, not sure what offset standard wheels are.

wheel offset is the relationship between the mounting face of the wheel and the centerline of the rim. If you move the rim out 35mm (neg offset) and remove 50mm spacer the wheel will be 15mm closer to the chassis and hence less steering lock.

Thinking about it you need to compare the offset of you current wheels with the offset of the new wheels and work out where this moves the rim too then subtract the 50mm for the spacer.

This is what I was trying to say, only he put it beterer than me

Are they Special Track.?

yes they are insa turbo special tracks.

am just struggling to work out the differance between a 35mm offset wheel and using a 50mm spacer.

cant see how an offset wheel would work better than the spacer.
but i am not very good at engineering stuff lol

assuming its 35mm offset from the centre line towards the hub - so the tire sits futher out ....vs land rover standard wheels (disco /fender steelies ) which are offset to almost the outside of the rim meaning the tire sits closer in

see how your rim centres quite close to the OUTSIDE face of the wheel - they have positive offset.

your spacers give them slight negative offset .

-35 negative offset give them more negative offset.

On this topic

I have some swb rims I'm hoping LR kept the same dia rim and naive plates are interchangable?? Hoping to use swb rim and rostyle naive plates job for later on

Hi

Thank you for explaining that.
So i think i get it all measurments in off set are taken from the centre line !!

meaning on standard rims they have a plus off set , meaning using wheel spacers just brings them back to the centre and then a small amount of negative off set.

using negative ofset wheels the 35mm is from the centre line already therefore pushing the wheel out further.

so i will be able to get full lock now, and it is quite possible the wheels may stick out a little further than with spacers.

thanks for your time to explain

A lot of std landy rims are positive 33mm which means 0 the wheel moves out 33mm if you have negative 35 they will sit out 68mm from std.

Right I can confirm you cannot fit rostyle naive plates into swb LR outter rims dia is completely different!

Never easy is it with LR!
