Hi,
Whenever I shut the engine off on my 1997 p38 dse I get 5 beeps. There are no error messages showing anywhere. Can anyone tell me what it may be?

You shouldn't get any beeps when you switch off unless you have faults being reported. Are you sure your dashboard is fully working? Only other way to check if you have faults is to take it to a garage and put it on a test book.

Maybe worth doing if you keep getting beeps repeatedly.

Thanks Adam. I get the beeps all the time and have done since I bought it (2 months ago). I know the air conditioning condenser is leaking and the blend motors appear to be faulty. I have the air conditioning switched off and as long as I dont change any of the heater controls no warning come up on the HEVAC unit. I guess ill start with checking/changing the blend motors first. Then get the air con working and finally see if it still beeps at me!

Do you get any indications at all in the information screen?

There's a test button on the instrument cluster to show outstanding alarms.

Maybe your display is gashed!

jeffers,

It is a small black button to the right of the instrument cluster display. When pushed, it will show any outstanding faults stored in the computer.

Good luck!

There are black buttons either side of the speedo and rev counter. The left hand one zeros the odometer and the right hand one brings up any alarm conditions on the display below the speedo and rev counter.

Hope that helps.

Irrespective of good or bad beeps, all will be reported to the driver on the dashboard...if your not receiving these notifications it means that you need to take it to a garage and place it on a testbook ASAP.

The beeps are definately from the hevac unit. They are there whether or not the keys are in the ignition. I want to get the air con working so ill change the blend motors and condenser when the weather is warm enough to work outside again!

They cant be, the HeVAC, even when its got a fault with the book icon showing, will not cause the message centre to beep. Does the sound happen ONLY when you turn off and at no other time??

When you turn off do you quite literally turn straight off and remove the key straight away?? Try just turning off so the key is left in the 1st position and see what the message centre says then.

Does the message centre report other things ok, such as low screenwash, bulb failures, window trapped, ignition key in etc etc??

-Wills :)

Hi Wills,
Thanks for your comments. The sound does only happen when I turn the ignition off. I will check the message centre for any messages when i turn the key to position 1 and let you know but I dont think there are any messages. The message centre does report all the failures you mention, I've had them all! Lastly, when I removed the hevac unit to install a car phone kit I no longer had any beeps as soon as I put it back the beeps came back, thats why I thought it was the hevac.

Well, what an idiot, all is now well. Thanks Crossply, it was indeed the radio, until I reread the thread I had missed it. When I took the hevac unit out, I had also removed the radio, how stupid can you get - no answer required!
Thanks everyone else for your help.
