Been offered a cheap d2 what to do ?

Been offered my friends D2 ,its early one with diff lock,coil springs all rd W reg

Its mot'd taxed and fab condition Gold in colour, with 86k and good history

It has a broken gearbox or TB , its lost all drive and when you let clutch out it just makes a nasty rattling noise and nothing turns under neath at all

I can select all gears but 4th ,and noise is there in or out of gear with the clutch out ,depress the clutch and it goes silent

he wants 1200 quid reckon its worth a play? chassis looks solid , but has had a patch under the rear legs on each side

Too much imo - I've seen fully working D2's for 1500..

gear box input shaft and layshaft have lost there teeth due to lack of oil by lack of servicing, cost you another box and fitting to fix ,plus a full service

offer scrap as it isn't worth more as chassis and transmission.
as said £1500 buys a runner

At 1200 you cant go wrong.you could try lower.plenty of 2000 td5s selling for 2.5k plus.and they are high milers.worth the money if you can do the gearbox change yourself.

£700 tops.if the chassis has already been patched,then chances are it will need more welding doing in the near future,plus the gearbox probs.?
