Anyone recommend any decent Green Laning spots in Bedfordshire? I know a few. Nothing too rough as we only have the series 3 with the normal tyres on. Yes she'll cope with it but I haven't bought it to go madly off road either!! Sorry if I offend any off roading lovers in the fact that I don't want to take it serious off roading!!:D
Thanks,
Lewis.

good one from Steppingley to A507 Milbrook at the edge of woods and sandy type soil, legal byway. heard that ones around Santa Pod are good but yet to try them. had a look at the lanes to the west of Broxbourne and will try them 13-14/10/06. I have a series 3 also, give me a shout and i'll give some a go with you.

There are some fantastic long byways within 5 mile radius of Kimbolton (all closed now until April just in case anyone has any fun!)

Hi Spyderman,
I'll give you a shout eventually............. there is sooooo much me and me dad have to do until we get round to the Landy brakes!! I know your thing says 'Who needs brakes?' But in this case we do!!
Anyway, look forward to it!!
Thanks,
Lewis.

Can you tell me exactly how to get to this one? I only live half a mile down the road in Flitwick so this would be a good one to start off with :)

Edit: Just found it on the OS map after using Darren's site......

Mike,
it's best to do it from Steppingley. it runs along the edge of the woods, quite long but not difficult, up to the A507. there is a gate at the top sometimes closed but not locked. You would never find the entrance from the Milbrook end.
Really good ones just south of Hitchin, 2 are no problem, 1 I would'nt do without company.
Give me a shout if you fancy giving them a go.

Thanks for that. I found it last night from the Steppingly end and drove a fair way down before coming across a cone with a yellow arrow directing me down into the dark forest (marked bridleway). I turned round and drove round to the Millbrook end (found it in the dark!) and went that way. Came across the same cone pretty quickly so just drove round it. It's a nice fairly easy track for a 1st timer and the old girl took the deep muddy puddles and ruts without any drama. There's a nice tilt in there too. Looking forward to more..........

Hey anyone up for some green laning in Bedfordshire area Hitchen?? Mabe in a couple of weeks time? Gotta fit a Rad before I go play :-( I need to mark my new map cos my old one is in the sea at clacton!!! Jai

Jai,
I'll be up for that. Have seen one off the A505 near Hitchin, but not done it. Plus a couple of others nearby, some I've done, 1 I wouldn't do alone.

Sounds good I usually get carried away and end up near Buntingford which isn't very cleaver on your own! I have driven quite a few around Hitchen/Whitwell area they are all good for a weekend jolly. I'll get a rad wacked in some time this weekend and we can go play next weekend if that suits you.

P.S. that one off of the 505 I got half way up in a Vaux nova (bit bored after work exploring) then got stuck, but I believe its got bollards half way up. There is a legal lane from sundon park estate to the old exodus house near the motorway bridge charlton, but this is just around the edge of a field and the council will not remove bollards even though it is classified as a byway, I offered to remove the bollards for free but I got a snotty email back from them, basically they dont want vehicles driving it. Which could mean they are failing their job to maintain and provide adaquate access. Jai.

Hey Spyderman,

Looking around for the lane near sharpenhoe couldnt find it on my map? Can you describe roughly where it is? I know that area quite well, but cant think where it is? Also there is going to be a AWDC comp next Sunday at Great Brickhill, they are all good guys and they always have a laugh! mabe its worth a pop in and watch after laning. Jai.

Jai,
OS Landranger map193. 053 353
Sharpenhoe to Harlington road, from Mill farm to upper Sampshill farm.

Ah never knew that was there how sad! Ive been going there for the last 7 years! Im going flying some RC's later about 500 Meters away from the entrance, just near the new houses on the bend, ill give it a go. Cheers Spyderman! Jai

Jai,
Near the Mill farm entrance there is a house with the back garden full of Series Landrovers, have never stopped to investigate as I've never seen the owner, just the big dogs.

Tried to do that Lane yesterday but somone has locked the gate just as you get over the first bridge. I should get my rad tomorrow then I can go explore. Jai

I think the council will only open it when they are asked to and if nobody asks for a period of time they use that as a basis for re classifying the lane to a bridleway or footpath. Jai
