Hi, im new to the forums...

Im looking for some green lanes around the north bedford area.

i've heard that there are quite a few good ones around grafham water. can anybody shed any light on this and where exactly are they? i drove around there last weekend but couldnt seem to find any!!

so far ive only driven the one in steppingley that goes through to milbrook, which they have shut in the last couple of weeks so im looking for somewhere new in bedford.

really, steppingley is as far south as i really want to go and grafham water as far north, are there any i can get on to NOW in that patch, and where exactly are they?

Many thanks in advance.

Go buy an OS explorer map covering the areas you want then i would go find the entrances and phone the council to confirm their legality then assuming the council say they are all legal go drive them but we would never suggest driving alone wouldnt wanna be stuck for hours do you now would you (ha ha thinking of Ryder) Jai

thanks for such a speedy reply.

I will give the council a ring and check which ones are open.

Can anybody recommend any around grafham water though? do you know if they are currently ok to drive?

Yeah, i met one of you guys on the course in steppingly a few weeks ago and he said to register.

i'll keep my eyes peeled!!

Parts of three shires way that go around graffham water and near kelshaw i think but only certain parts are or open from memory Jai

Wavelength, The Grafham & Santa Pod lanes close for the winter at the end of this month. I've been told that some of the Santa Pod lanes are already closed due to weather.
There's not a right lot else that way that are open all year. Hertfordshire & Essex are your best bet for the winter.
We'll be going out again soon, why not tag along.

Yeah, im not brave enough to go on my own at the moment as i dont have a winch etc to get out.

just so you know, i found cambs county council very helpful yesterday in terms of finding out where is and isnt open.

Im told there are some good lanes over near gransden and the longstowe area. does anybody know if they are much good?

Yeah, im not stupid enough to go on my own EVER!! as i know how easy it is to get stuck even with a winch etc to get out.

There you are makes much more sense now. For a moment or two you sounded like a right plonker....

Oh did i? i'll have to watch out, im no plonker. lol.

you needn't worry, my head is securely fastened down!

There are a few lanes that are safe to run alone. Its still useful to have a few phone numbers though, not because you'll get stuck there, simply because if the vehicle fails its nice to have someone to tow you back to civilisation!

Hook up with us for a day out... most of us carry phone numbers of at least 7 other people, any or all of whom would drop almost anything if we were in trouble. (personal experience talking here). The Herts group is close to you, including folks from london to essex, herts and a lot of bedfordshire. Why don't you make the trip down to join us for a pub meet next month and get to know a few faces?

yeah, will definetly have to make the journey down then. i'll keep my eyes peeled for info.

thanks all for your relpies so far.
