BeCM gremlins?

Hi

Read quite a few posts re BeCM problems and if you are interested then my symptoms are main beam staying on (but not rear) when engine running, RH-F door open when not, silent indicators. Had AA out and all fuses tested OK, battery good and earth's sound.

My landie garage reckon BeCM needs swapping out but cannot diagnose until Thu, anyone got any other ideas?

Cheers

Adam

if they want to fit a new or recon becm, its going to cost you over £1000, send a pm to irish rover or rick the pick. they can sort it out for you..

just to stick my 2pence worth in when i first got my p38 was looking through all the old invoices of work done and had one from a main stealer which said that the main beam was stuck on and they replaced the becm at a cost of £3000(this included a service and some other work)! Why the hell dont they have anyone at landrover that can sort becm's out! surely if guys on here that have the equipment to do then a large company like them can, or is it that all the men that have the knowledge about the p38's have stopped working for them!!!

Hi got in contact with both Rik and Irish and have chosen Irish to do the work, has been most helpful on pm.

Asked my garage to take out the BeCM and allow me to send it to Irish and fit it when it comes back but garage said would not trust the parts and refused then to do diagnostics at the least.

Nothing left to do but try my luck with some pliers, a good socket set, the workshop manual, and a screwdriver set. Manual advised removing the seat but didn't fancy it (and had no torx heads large enough:eek:). Followed instructions about removing the trim, then set to work, unplug multi-plugs, unbolt earths and BeCM? 3/4 hours later and having shifted the seat back and for, I have one metal box ready for shipping tomorrow. Not two hours as the garage quoted!

As long as the useless rear vent is removed via three screws, the carpet, the two layers of rubber matting can then be bent over, giving access to the third nut that secures the BeCM to the floor (the other two are round the front, shift the seat back to do those). Last multiplugs to go were the ones to the seat. BeCM can then be removed towards the rear seats (Forward not an option due to fuseboard and narrowing of the aperture). Of most use was was the flexi socket extendor that allowed me to apply pressure in some very tight spaces.

Handily noticed that all the multi plugs are differentiated by both colour and size for refit!

Off it goes tomorrow to Irish!

Updates later next week.

Cheers

Ok, Irish did a grand job and the BeCM was received today. The only thing wrong with the BeCM was the power (not the worse 'signal') board, Irish had one spare so dismantled and affixed the better one, tested it all 'A' OK. Then the moment of truth after 30 minutesd to refit, main beam not on, lights working, indicators "clicking", wipers working, no door outstation problems or open when not.

Turned the ignition to III to wake the electrics and got all four windows as unset, upp'ed and down'ed them all which fixed the back two but the front two are still not set despite much opening and closing.

Thanks again to Irish, anyone got any ideas on this one?

Cheers

Try spraying silicone into the window guides with the windows down, could be that the rubber guides are dry and dragging against the glass when you are attempting to do the reset. If you don't have silicone spray, Fabsil or similar, you could use WD40 but you will probably have to clean the smears off the glass afterwards.

You are holding down the buttons for 5 secs after they have opened / closed aern't you ????

My windows did the same (Coz you can't "See" the rears you "Hear" them) so you tend to hold the button down that little bit longer with the rears.

Try holding the Button down fer a good 5 secs AFTER they reach the Closed / open position & wait fer the "BEEP" & "Window Set" on the dash... they are really "Finiky" .....

Hooded, result

6 seconds after opening and after closing did the trick on both front windows. Clamshell also working fine now.

Many thanks to you Hooded and to IrishRange who fixed the BeCM let's hope this is the last of it for a while at least!!!

Cheers and thanks

Adam
