Jason, Did you send you BCU off to us in Brighton?

I can remember the name & the problem, & if you are the person, amend your posts.

All you need to do is to relearn your petrol engine management security. Easy as that.

Your BCU had plenty wrong with it & that has all been sorted & tested, retested, & sent back to you with clear instructions.

To come into these forums, & as you have already admitted little knowledge of diagnostics etc, & instead of taking probably the best advice you can, you wish to slate the very person who was helping you.

I have not stated who I sent the BCU off to, as to ensure I'm not slandering a person or business on my first trip to a site, where people are helping me out.
The posts above will be useful for anyone in my position, as such I won't be amending them.
The instructions I received with my returned BCU were along the lines of "Just re-sync it", with no direct instructions on how to achieve this. This is similar, to me explaining to someone how to do a specialist task they know nothing about with my software, that they don't have.

The reason I came to these forums, (which thus far, has been extremely helpful) was to try and find a solution to the problem i'm having. Problem will hopefully be resolved when I get a Nanocom through the post, as the Hawkeye is not capable of carrying out the resynchronisation between the ECU and BCU.

Exactly that. Just resync it. Although I did explain in more detail that the motronic would need to be diagnosticaly linked back to the BCU.

You told us you had the Hawkeye, I didn't know that yours couldn't do the job. I assumed hawkeye could achieve this basic function. Reading your posts & the replies it's become clear that your specific hawkeye can't. I can't help you with that. If I could of put an input in, I'd would of advised to purchase the Nanocom. With that in mind I understand you're feeling a bit peeved in that after purchasing a diagnostic system you only realised after you bought it that it couldn't achieve what you needed it to do. Luckily there are plenty of kind & willing chaps in this forum that are willing to help you. The fact that you mentioned that there was probably nothing wrong with your BCU in the first place put's me in a very difficult position as to offering any further advice. That's the first time I've ever had to mention that to any land rover or range rover owner. Now I hope you understand where I'm coming from.

I have a 2004 Disco 2 V8 and had a similar problem to what you have described and I was going to go down the route of BCU replacement.
I borrowed a Nanocom unlocked for V8 and found this to be excellent, however my problem was actually corrosion in a connector in the LHS front door pillar. There was water leaking in from the windscreen and tracking down the wiring harness and running through the cable connector - wet carpet... I fixed the leak - by resealing the windscreen, disconnected and cleaned all 30+ pins on the connector and remated it. Bizarrely though the car only came back to life when I took the engine start relay out of the engine fuse box then turned the ignition to On and shorted out the relay outputs with a thick piece of copper wire. The car started and has run without reoccurrence for 6 months. PS Emmots of Colne are great for spares. I have described this in detail on a Thread. Good luck. Mike
