I kind of know what the answer will be having read other threads but has anyone an opinion on the quality of the balljoints on the ends of the main track rod (P38) of either company's part? I need to do back discs and ARB links too and am leaning towards Bearmach. Local supplier has the Bearmach in stock and the cheaper Britpart is mail order. (Obvious choice really).

bearmach branded can be as hit and miss as britpart imo.. maybe slightly better

go oem if it's not much more

not in all parts both sell oem ,genuine or pattern or branded, same as tesco or asda

what's the difference between oem and genuine?

should they be the same part but genuine in a landrover box and stamped?

i've had oem recently where they look nothing like the genuine parts i've replaced and are also unbranded. (300tdi reverse switch and 300tdi rear crank oil seal).

I understand oem can be from various factories that supplied landrover in the past.

if you order genuine then it will have been purchased from lr ,not necessarily lr boxed but usually ,oem from the same company not necessarily same quality but with timken you would ,obviously depends on your retailer how honest he is ,if its a non current part it probably isnt necessarily made in the same factory or country

ah right, so depending on the oem company the quality can still be a little hit and miss.

nothing is simple when you want cheap ;)

yes .obviously better than pattern though, a good supplier should make an order up using the best priced parts and quality from several wholesalers ,ie timkem bearings from britpart ,seal from allmakes stub axle from bearmach

Yes but where do LR scource THEIR spares from, once the part is obsolete & all the original stock is exhausted? There cases (from reliable scources) pointing to parts bought from LR these days not being quality items, despite the premium price.

All manufacturers have always had very high spare part prices. You at one time could get the likes of Quinten Hazel bits that were cheaper but just as good as the genuine parts. Now all parts seem to be crap and a bit of a lottery to be honest.

it would be nice if we had a breakdown of who makes the oem bits

Land rover will have sourced there bits from several different manufacturers over time. For instance Bosal who many say now make crap exhausts, were actually OEM makers for many Land rover models.
