hi all

wondering , has anyone used Bearmach own brand oils, seem pretty cheap .. but if its not very good I will avoid ..

doing .. engine , gearbox , transfer and diffs ...

I have Halfords trade card , but they don't do the mtf94 gearbox oil ..

Should I go with gl5 or gl4 for the diffs ?

cheers ..

I wouldn't use Bearmach oil , its probably used chip fat. I dont get why you would go to a specialist who specialises in cheaper than cheap low quality parts for something as generic as oil. Would you put Tesco Basic oil in there if they sold it?

Never had an issue with Bearmach stuff. They are quite quality orientated as i was involved with working with their sales and quality department some years ago. Alot of their stuff is original oem parts repacked and sold by them.

Can you explain why both my rear callipers turned up with the bolts holding the two halves together loose? One was so loose it was basically in two parts? On closer inspection the holes the fluid transfers through both halves didn't line up correctly so who ever refurbed it machined a large square out of both halves and fitted a square seal in place rather than an O ring, the threaded holes for the brake nuts had been re threaded to the point where the nuts fitted pretty loosely and didn't fill me with confidence when tightening them up, you cannot source the cheapest possible parts without compromising quality, it simply isnt possible.

Much the same as *hitpart then. Some of their stuff I buy, but I'd steer clear of oil I think. Having said that I've got *hitpart one shot in my swivels.

I fitted one of their fuel tanks a while back, it was noticeably bigger than the old one, the breather tube to filler tube outlet was in a completely different place and I had to cut the tub to make the pipe fit, it carried the correct part number, cheap is cheap for a reason, that reason isnt to do you any favours.

Noted ..

Ive only had my landy for 6 months , and hadn't heard of Bearmach till the other day , thought Id ask and see ..

I have just seen some oil by , Smith and Allan , people seem to be pleased with them , and I noticed they sell in bulk which is handy , I think I read that it was rebranded shell oil ?

If you know what spec you want Ebay and the Mannol range of oils is quite good and sensibly priced, especially if you buy it in 20 litre quantities.
Benn using it in all my cars for a few years now

GL4 or 5 will be fine, GL4 is meant to be safe with brass/copper/phospor etc bushes in gearboxes but GL5 is basically an updated version, so either will do for your car

Smith and Allen ar ok, not always the best price in my experience.

People get obsessed with oil always wanting to upgrade, its oil for fcuks sake! must be syn (load of rollacks) must be this or that brand (even more rollacks) that brands carp etc, but as I said above if it meets the spec you need go for it.

Gear oil

Unsure on your engine so cant recommend an oil.
