p38 batterys , with regards to my other thread, how often would you replace the p38 battery ? are there any tell tale signs that one would need replacing ? ive not had any issues with it until yesterday , or any idea if battery is to do with it , but also i have no idea how old it is , ive had the car 18 months now, and it doesnt look new or anything

and out of interest anyone got any tips where to get a cheape decent one and what battery to look for ?

cheers

A battery will last as long as it lasts. Standard should be 7 years, but some need replacing sooner, others later. T'is the problem with high volume low QA products.

I use a 1000CCA 130AH Alphaline. Recommended by Datatek so I figured I'd give it a punt, for £100 to your front door, you can't go wrong. Made a huge difference to my P38 which had various issues striking when cold. Would throw up gearbox/TC warnings.

If I was lucky I could strike it up twice without going for a huge run to top off the battery. Now it strikes like a charm every time. Not run it flat yet but I suspect it'll take some doing.

I too have this battery and would recommend it. It's the biggest one that will fit in the space provided.

Mine's been much better behaved since I replaced my old Halfords battery.

I've a diesel
Bought the equivalent from Halfords no problems as yet easy to replace if it goes wrong.
Remember if its mail order and it goes wrong you have to send it back expensive !

Check it yearly at any garage just before winter with a battery drop tester , tell tale Signs sluggish when starting in the morning always have battery checked tho just incase its a sluggish starter motor :)

Bad oil can also make it hard to start when cold. Had some dirty old oil in an old car when I picked it up. In the cold it was so thick to stir the start would disengage. Put in some lovely fresh new oil and the problem went away instantly.

No, the treacle diffs was my current RR.

This was a car I got super cheap (200 wingwangs) and spent half a year making road legal. It'd been sat for the better part of a year and had been unloved by a previous owner who thought you didn't need oil changes on a diesel because in his world "heavy oil means it is a self lubricating engine." The original plan was an engine swap, but after an oils and filters change it ran flawlessly, so I never bothered. :p

I'm confused. Do you mean the guy I got the car from? In which case, yes I wanted to punch him in the feet. Just shows that no one reads the owners manual.

Yes naturally the previous owner you wouldn't neglect a car like that would you :)
