how about aircon compressor is starting to sieze. when in reverse you normally don't put you foot down, so very low revs and the engine stalls due to extra loading from siezing compressor, in drive you mostly put a bit more power in so it don't stall as often.

thoughts?

hi hifly...thats a very good thought mate...thank you....guys what u all think about this input..??.....

but why a/c compressor start to seize..?? why extra loading mates...

is this the engine that overheated and bent the head when you were in the middle of nowhere, or am i confusing this with another thread?
(just couldnt find the other thread!)

yes mate ...im the same guy...for your info this problem(cutting off) has occured before that nightmare.

Yeah, I'd go with aircon compressor seizing up. I think they contain a clutch, so you'd need to be aware of that but obviously turning it by hand or bar will tell you if its the problem.

Not sure if i am correct but can you run the cold engine for a few min's without the aux belt on?

do a bit of reversing and with air con "turnrd on" this would then tell you if its an electrical fault with the aircon circuit as no actual load will be put on the engine.

don't run for too long or you will feck the head.

hi paul..thanks for the input...can u describe how to do this actually...i really dont have any idea......thanks mate...

My LR doesn't have air con so I can't be exact, but normally they have an electrically activated clutch. You might need to take off an electrical connection and apply 12V, to lock up the clutch, then try turning the compressor. Hopefully someone with air con can confirm, though.

hi hifly..thanks for the suggestion but i think the a/c compressor is connected to the aux belt..but i maybe wrong..?? plus i wouldnt dare to test like that...anyway really appreciate it mate...

thanks mate..so when turning the compressor ..what to look out for mate..??

i think you miss understood my post a bit.

this is what i would do.

with engine cold.

disconnect aux belt
apply 12v to a/c clutch and see if you can turn compressor from pully
if you can turn it and it sounds and feels ok, no grinding/squeeking. if its stuck or grinding the the compressor is probably fecked and thats your problem. if its ok then,

disconect temp 12v to a/c clutch, start engine and turn on the a/c switch on the dash, this will test the wiring. do a bit of reversing.

if its ok then its not the wiring to the a/c system.

while you are mucking about with the belt i would check the altenator spins ok as if that is tight that combined with the extra load of the a/c when on may be stalling the engine.

It will probably have 2 belts. One is the main belt and does the alternator, water pump and power steering pump. The other is the aux and it only does the air con. So you can remove the aux belt and run the car with no problems, except the air con won't work.

thanks mates...but i think im not prepared to do that...ive to find the mechanic and see what happens.. thanks...

hi mates...ive check it out with mechanic,a/c guys and lastly an electrician. Finally the answer for this headache has been revealed ..thanks to all u guys as well ..it is the a/c choke..the electrician says its defective...its suppose to push a bit of fuel more to sustain the extra load when a/c swicth on but its not now.....(picture as below)

the electrician said it can be modified..but im a bit skeptical....can it be modified mates??..here in this part of land ..theres no such thing(Land rover a/c choke) selling as spare part...

another thing is, he was asking for the circuit diagram of the wiring/electronic of the system and the truck itself...well im a second hand owner so i dont have it...can u guys help to get the diagram..or if anybody have..can u share with me thanks a lot mates...May GOD BLESS ALL...:)

hi mates ...regarding the matter above....if there is weblink....for the diagram or the the specific part(a/c choke) ...pls kindly post it here ...thanks all...

glad its getting somewhere now. not heard of an air con choke, but i dont have air con
on mine.
you need to search for landrover rave download. rave is the o&m technical journal used by landraover. it is available, probly on lz, or google. if i can find out where i got it i will post the link.
nrg

hi NRG ..the link doesnt work....but nrvmind ....the electrician told me today its not choke...theres no a/c choke in the car....that thing is TPS he says...throttle position sensor...can anybody verify this..??

That sounds more like it. This is the electrical doo-hickey that replaces a normal throttle cable found on the manual gearbox non EDC cars.

cheers
Dave

thanks dave...so theres no choke for the a/c like any other cars which can be adjusted or repaired...so the last option for my problem was ..by the mechanic ..elevate the rpm a bit to compensate the a/c...so my idling rpm now is around 980 to 1050rpm...is that ok mates..??...
