Bastid Alarm Keeps Going Off

1997 disco 1 300tdi
the alarm keeps going off an i'm fooked if i know why!
checked all doors, battery is ok, took battery off for 5 mins to try to reset the system an it still keeps going off

any idea's lads an lasses before i drive it into the local damm an set fire to it:smash:
is there a fuse i can take out or something till i can have a proper look tomorrow?

Try disconnecting the interior movement sensor. Apart from flat batteries they are the next most common fault to keep activating your alarm.

for tonight take the plug off the horn located on the drivers inner wing near the fuse box.

the interior sensor is covered with stickers coz the dog sets it off when she's in the back, an it never set it off before? an the battery is showing the green status indecator as good but will test it in the morning

taken the battery leads off for tonight to stop the neighbourhood from getting their beuty sleep

Mine was going off at random due to dust in the bonnet switch. Its next to the safety catch.

Sjanes right:clap2: , the bonnet switch is a prime culprit in alarm systems they rust up so quickly especially on Defenders because the bonnet doesnt fully shut, Disco's probably better but disconnect and see

I agree that they do play up a lot. You normally get a door open signal when setting the alarm if the bonnet switch is faulty though. On a defender it is a couple of blastss of the horn. I don't know what is on a disco. The interior sensor when faulty will just randomly cause the alarm to go off. Just cos it's covered in stickers doesn't mean it's not faulty and able to play up.

Although Nick says the battery seems ok, most alarms have a voltage drop sensor too. If the battery voltage is thought to be dropping too quick it should trigger the alarm. If it starts this morning though I woulda said it rules that one out.

Sounds just like what happened to me a couple of weeks ago. I tried everything and eventually found the plipper had a dry joint on the battery terminal.
If you can turn it off with the plipper then god knows.
I was told to put the ignition switch to position 2 then switch off and disconect the battery within 5 seconds then leave disconected for 2 mins. Reconect then the alarm goes into a learn state. You can then use the key instead of the plipper.
Do check inside the plipper tho. Mine was the top battery joint and after everything i went thru was very happy to have fixed it.

aup folks
i was told on the other channel to take both battery leads off and join them together to short out the power left in the capacitors, left them together all night an reconnected the battery leads this morning an touch wood it hasn't gone off yet:clap2:

so hopefully it's sorted if not i'll look at other advise till i find the problem.

If you lock the door with the key rather that the remote the interior senseor is disabled. It might solve your problem of the dog setting it off and you could remove the stickers. I would also eliminate the sensors if the problem re-occurs.
