Thought I'd moan a bit hoping that someone would take a bit of pity and cheer me up a bit.

Got interested in Landy's before the summer. Sold my car last month. Saved some money. Done tons of research; lurking here, YouTube, magazines. Been to see a few, but never got that "right feeling".
Been trawling the for sale section, eBay and Autotrader for suitable candiates. Can't post in the for-sale section because I've not got enough posts. I don't have enough posts because I don't have any problems with my Land Rover because I can't buy a Land Rover. :D :D

So now I'm sitting here, keen to go buy one, but all I can find are either rust buckets or super-silly-priced.

Hoping to hear kind words like "be paitent, the right one will come along" and "you'll know when you'll see it", etc.

Oh, and do post a nice photo of a nice Defender to cheer me up (I know most of them are displayed in the forum, but I'm too ambivalent to click the link.

Anyway, you're probably all in Eastnor, running around in bikini tops, getting your rims all dirty...

:D

I feel better now.

If you would put what your max amount you are willing to spend, you could get some good ideas as to weather it is possible or not.

About £6k, but I'm leaning towards an early TD5. I'd like to find one with solid chassis, bulkhead and mechanics, but a bit tatty interior etc.

"The right one will come along... " and repeat.. :D

Well here's mine

Its still very much work in progress but as of today I only really need to do the engine swap to a 200Tdi (from my scrap disco) as I've finally sorted out the new chassis loom rewiring, refitted the tank and changed all the lights for brand new Wipac units :D

Its not the prettiest but it was only £500 and I really wanted a 110 CSW :D:D

Good luck in your hunt all I say is be prepared to travel far and wide for your perfect Fender (mine was in a field 4 miles away lol)

There's a TD5 here for £5995.
Thanks! I wouldn't mind a proper utility one, but I kind of don't want a kebab-van in the back. ;):D

If you could push your budget to £8k then you've got a choice.

I probably can push the budget up, but don't really want to tie that much money into a car, especially an old car. I know it's a bit ironic that I'm complaining that I can't find a nice one, but at the same time not prepared to pay for one.

I'd absolutely love to start off this way. I'd love to take one to bits and put it back just as I want it. However, I don't have the space (right now) to do so.
Hope it'll be a good project for you. And post loads of pics!

Thanks! Yeah, I know... I'm just being impatient! :)

Can't understand anyone wanting an early td5 in anything. Land rover had spent years getting the 200tdi then 300tdi just right - probably the best engines ever to go in land rovers - and then they start playing with a load of electronics and five cylinders and witchcraft. Suspect if you look at late 300tdi's you'll have far more choice for your money and a far more reliable vehicle.

I've not discarded the 300TDi. The 5 cylinders just sound nicer. And I'm not afraid of electronics. :)

I'm trying my best to not focus on the engine or body shape, I am hoping that I can control myself enough to buy the one that's got a good chassis, bulkhead and mechancis.
