Hi

Our 56k 2001 TD4 has developed an intermittent bang/pop noise (almost like a gentle backfire) which seems to coming from underneath the back of the vehicle when reversing on full lock. Seems to happen more often after a session off-road, after wheels have been spinning and TC has engaged. There is the usual resistance when on full lock but the noise is a fairly recent occurrence. Any ideas, VCU? diff mounts?
Help would be appreciated.

somewhere on this forum, in the freelander section, was exactly this fault, and it was caused by the most bizzare of things. I think the solution came from clutchy, so it must have been right, i'll have to have a dig back and try to find it. give us a mo

ahh fook it, it's on here somewhere, but the "find all posts" only goes back 500. Thinks your gonna have to do a search. top tip - use the search feature between new posts and quick links as it only searches the forum. use the google one and god knows where you'll end up

good luck

Once had the same problem with one of those jap scrap Rav 4's. Turned out to be the diff mountings. These were rubber bushes that had just disintergrated letting the diff slap about in the mounting brackets......
