Hi, my Freelander 2 (Paul) seems to have a problem. When i start driving and make a full turn, i get a harsch squeak from the back and sometimes even a blocking of the wheels.
What wIe did so far is:

CHECKING BACK DIFF (which I have changed 2 Months ago with a refurbished one): I lifted him up to test the back diff by holding one wheel and turning the other. No noise there, so I guess the diff is fine
HALDEX UNPLUG: When unpluging the Haldex I get the normal warning on the dashboard, that the special programs are not working but i also get no noise when driving.

Would you say it is fair to assume that the haldex has a problem? And the bigger question, before i start disassembly. Does somebody have experience with this and can tell if only the pump is damaged or if this symptom means I need a totally new Haldex part.

Thanks
Robert

No, but that would be great if it was that simple. :)
So you would say that it is worth changing the oil before going the distance and change the whole unit?

I may be wrong, but I don't think its a simple "drain the old stuff out and top up with new".

There is some info on here about doing it, and I'm sure there are videos on YouTube showing how to do it. Various cars use the Haldex unit and there are different versions of the unit (even on F2s). I don't know how different each version is, but they may be quite different.

I'm an F1 guy, so all I have is a simple viscous coupling.... that I've disconnected!

@Stv123 I got it in normal mode, but i had the same thought and checked what happens if i have such a mode active. and i experienced the same result.
@GrumpyGel Thanks, I already looked up how to change the Haldex pump a week ago, but I was searching for confirmation on my thoughts from some fellow drivers with experience. I will let you know the result once I have it done

My haldex also made a right racket on tight turns, changed the oil and filter and noise has disappeared.

Changed the filter after a struggle (lack of maintenance) but could not remove the pump motor to drain the oil, had to suck the oil out of the fill hole with a syringe. Aluminium corrosion had seized the filter and pump to the casing.

Check you tube for method.

If it's an early F2, this will have a 3rd gen Haldex and needs to have the propshaft flange removed to get the haldex pump out. Otherwise the same as the video.
